RCSI Bahrain officially unveils new sports centre

The official launching ceremony of a new sports centre in Bahrain was held under the patronage of His Excellency Dr Faisal Bin Yacub Al Hamer, Minister of Health in Bahrain, at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, Medical University of Bahrain (RCSI Bahrain).

The event involved the participation of Kingdom’s dignitaries, staff, students and alumni from the University.

The first phase of work included the completion of the sports hall of the $65m RCSI Bahrain campus.

The indoor facility construction, stretching 12,000 square foot began in August 2008 and was completed within the stipulated time. The facility will be widely used for sporting activities and future specialist courses.

The President of RCSI Bahrain, Dr. Faisal Al Mousawi said, the new sports centre marks a wonderful addition to the campus, which would enrich the lives of students and the community by encouraging enjoyment and participation in sports and recreational activities.

“The range of amenities offered will be of much benefit to the University and wider community, and will help in promoting sports participation at all levels”, he added.

Located adjacent to the main building of the University, the new sports centre includes a main hall for indoor hockey, badminton, basketball, netball, volleyball, and 5-a-side football. There are also separate gymnasiums for men and women, an exercise studio for conducting dance, yoga and aerobics classes, and a snooker room.

Being a constituent university of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, RCSI Bahrain has the capacity to accommodate 2000 student and intends to offer healthcare education and training matching global standards, to students in Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Oman and Kuwait.
