Work in progress at the Amwaj Gateway project

The developers of the BD69mn Amwaj Gateway project have admitted that the project is behind schedule, but agreed that all necessary measures are being taken to satisfy the customers.

The Managing Director of the Company, Qais Al Maskati, who spoke to the media, agreed that the company has been facing problems to pay the contractors, as several of the customers have defaulted and legal actions are being taken against a few of them.

Al Mastaki revealed that only one of the three towers, namely ‘The East Tower’ will be completed by the end of the year. The other tower Royal Tulip has been reserved for a hotel, while the West Tower will be completed after the East Tower is ready.

Thos who have booked the West Tower, have been invited to move to the East, so that they can begin residing there, and also are being offered discounts, Al Mastaki said.

The remaining construction for the hotel tower will be begin after the company managing the hotel finalizes the details about the interior designing of the hotel and on the furnishings. But, such things take time, he said.

At present 90 percent of the East Tower have been sold out, and 50 to 60 percent of the entire project has been sold. Al Mastaki confirmed that work is progressing in the project, although not at the scheduled pace.

The construction work was initially handed over to Cukurova Construction, a Turkish Company in 2008. Thereafter, it was taken over by another Turkish Company Garantikoza. Al Mastaki claims that both the companies are the same, and that Garantikoza has taken over Cukurova Constructions.

The Amwaj Gateway project was announced in July 2006 and construction began in early 2008. It was originally due for completion in May 2009.

The entire project comprises six 20 storey towers that accommodate 550 units. The development includes amenities such as condos, apartments, restaurants, hotel, shops, townhouses, gymnasiums, swimming pools, and private beach, all within a gated community.
